Here's what you can wear. One evening wedding, three ways to dress for it.
Two rules, and neither of them is on the invite: don't upstage the couple, and don't be miserable by 11pm. Evening weddings want fabric with some weight to it and a shoe you can still stand in after the speeches.
Go with this one if you want the easy answer with a twist. Emerald satin catches the light all evening, and the sculpted spiral drape does the work jewellery usually does. Block heels mean you can stand through the speeches and still dance after. Just keep anything near white out of it.
Not a dress person? Wear the suit. A midnight blue cape-back blazer is as formal as the room needs and moves beautifully when you walk. Wide satin trousers keep it soft, a silk camisole stops it feeling like work, and heeled mules finish it off.
This is the one I would pick if you want to look dressed and then forget about it. Plum velvet, bias-cut so it moves with you, an asymmetric neckline and a single cut-out at the waist, with strappy heels. As dressed as a gown, with no skirt to hold out of the way all night.
